Experiencing Anne

On maybe the only day of the Easter long weekend that galleries were open (and not all of them at that) we did a crawl from Midland to the city yesterday – visiting Midland Junction Art Centre, Spectrum Project Space at ECU, Stala Contemporary (not open so had to peer through the window again – have not yet jagged the right combination of day and time to find this door open) Linton & Kay’s West Perth space, Art Collective, Moore Contemporary and a exhibition about the Swan river at Council House. But my favourite show was at The Store, the small self-contained space at the end of the verandah at MJAC, where Anne Williams has unrolled her life in a daily stitched narrative that circles the room.

Anne has the backing of a decades long craft practice including all manner of textile work, which she is now drawing on to document her thoughts and the quiet patterns of her life in minute stitches of colourful threads on reclaimed fabrics. The work, which began as a decision to stich every day but morphed into a meditation on the nature of time, is meticulous, joyful, mesmerising and impressive and I urge you all to visit the exhibition before it closes on June 8th.

GALLERY OPENING TIMES WED TO FRI 10AM – 5PM, SAT 11AM – 3PM
