Ted Huge

Enough now

Last February I posted the poem A Second Glance at a Jaguar by Ted Hughes. It was a favourite of mine since I first read it some time in the 1980’s and I posted it under Inspiration. There is no commentary, no review, no discussion of the innocent savagery of animals or the mixture of beauty and violence in the natural world. I make no remarks upon the unfortunance of losing one wife to a head-in-the-oven suicide nor to the down right carelessness of losing two. It is just a poem that I copied and pasted from the internet to save on typing

However, from about 6 months ago I have been averaging at least 10 hits a day on my blog from people looking for Ted Hughes, Ted Huges, Second gland, Jagoar, skin full of bowls, Aztec disemboweller, Second glance Jaguar etc. etc. etc…

If you google Ted Hughes Second Glance at a Jaguar my blog comes up second out of 8000 results! In the beginning I thought it was interesting. I thought, how nice, obviously some school or university has set this poem as for an essay or research. But now I am just starting to get cross!

Don’t get me wrong, I am liking the stats and maybe you might read something of mine while you are visiting but really you know, it is somewhat deflating.

Also, if you can’t actually spell – WHY ARE YOU STUDYING POETRY?

Sorry, sorry it is just the frustration is getting to me. I am really quite hospitable and am happy to have you on board but please, please, please can the next Ted Huge gland googler just tell me what is going on?

I have had the same thing with my inspirational Fennec fox photographs – 126 views on one day!! And 10 already today. Fennec foxes are cute, I know that, I still want some, but really! I have also started getting an enormous amount of spam to my email address, I can’t help thinking that they are related. There is a mean spammy person who likes jagoars and foxes out there.

Not sure – it doesn’t feel like spam to me. It feels like lots of people studying this poem and googling it in different ways. But you may well be right.
