Words For Imi To Entice Her Home

Asphalt sticky with heat
and dust rising in the drops of a sudden storm
birds shouldering and
shrugging their way into the pool
at the foot of the verandah
mangoes and peaches and white nectarines
your summer dresses whispering in the quiet of the cupboard
white cotton sheets and the shifting shadow of the ceiling fan
clicking clicking clicking in the still night
the cat curled in the sprawling middle of the bed
the jigsaw pieces of your life waiting
to be fitted together
into a new shape
where everything is real and sharply focused
by love by loss by change and trials of transport
your worldly cynicism no longer feigned
your head full of language
your eyes closing and opening like a shutter
your heart full and spilling over
your limbs heavy
your mind spinning
walking out into the sun
