New Mothers

New mothers

Bend

And sway

And make cradles

From their arms

Even empty handed

They sing soft songs

And dance

slow circles

At night when they lay

In boat rocking beds

Their arms still curl

In case

The sweet weight of sleep

Slips through their fingers
